Rock or mineral with no commercial value which must be removed from a mine to access valuable ores, and which is then dumped near the site often in huge quantities. On the right is the "Spring/Sulphur Gulch" waste rock dump at Molycorp. This and other waste rock dumps contain acid generating materials.
